In 2017, my mother and I visited the National African American Museum of History and Culture and was so moved by the beautifully designed building and the rich history of the content displayed. It was only a dream to have my jewelry on the shelves of the gift store. I can not express the joy I feel to let you know that my dream has come to fruition...
AMBER POITIER is in the National African American Museum Gift Store!
The Lexi leather Bracelet in black (bottom), Ava Mini Black leather earring, Jazmine leather earring in lemon and the Zoe leather bracelet in Merlot. (all bracelets are adjustable).
The Amber Poitier brand was founded in 2015. As an artist I am very driven by the joys and pain of my history. I often refer to my extended origins from Jamaica, but I was born here in the US. The building design by Freelon Adaye Bond is absolutely stunning. The bronze colored filigree motif speaks to my art style, as we both like the idea of cutouts. The intricate work in the art of the building is mesmerizing.
I understand that I am the walking dream of my ancestors. It is especially touching to have my art sitting in the building that tells that story. I am the joy, that some of my people did not get a chance to experience. I ask for grace as I enjoy every single moment of this accomplishment and alignment.
Visiting the museum is a reminder that we all have a responsibility to be the change and joy that we want to see. These quotes below from Maya Angelou and Barack Obama says it best.
